The thirteenth novel in Craig Johnson’s beloved New York Times bestselling Longmire series, the basis for the hit Netflix series Longmire

Sheriff Walt Longmire is enjoying a celebratory beer after a weapons certification at the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy when a younger sheriff confronts him with a photograph of twenty-five armed men standing in front of a Challenger steam locomotive. It takes him back to when, fresh from the battlefields of Vietnam, then-deputy Walt accompanied his mentor Lucian to the annual Wyoming Sheriff’s Association junket held on the excursion train known as the Western Star, which ran the length of Wyoming from Cheyenne to Evanston and back. Armed with his trusty Colt .45 and a paperback of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express, the young Walt was ill-prepared for the machinations of twenty-four veteran sheriffs, let alone the cavalcade of curious characters that accompanied them.

The photograph—along with an upcoming parole hearing for one of the most dangerous men Walt has encountered in a lifetime of law enforcement—hurtles the sheriff into a head-on collision of past and present, placing him and everyone he cares about squarely on the tracks of runaway revenge.

I love the Longmire series I love the Longmire series….Johnson tried a different format this writing and it took a while into the story for me to get used to the jumpsback and forth in time. But, sticking with it paid off! Craig J.’s characters always feel like i’m getting together with old friends, each time a newstory comes out. But, then that’s the kind of guy Craig is, too….A good friend! Thanks Craig, again!B&C OviattWyoBuds

Johnson Gives us Another Great Ride Craig Johnson is solid on his books… The Western Star is a beautiful work that allows us a glimpse into life events that shaped Walt Longmire into the man (and Sheriff) he is today. Would that we could all examine our life’s dual story. This book moves along at a rolling pace. We settle back against the seat, lulled into comfort by the rhythm of the rails-ready for that “Walt” experience- only to find we are on a discovery mission… always in Walt’s head- but within his…

One of the best yet. I liked the story, it kept me reading. I wait to finish and then when I was done I wanted more. But I don’t like a continued storyline. It kept me interested, I love Vic and Henry and Walt. I can see Lucian in my mind so clearly more than any of the others.I just don’t want to see Longmire stray to far from where he started. But I can’t wait for the next story.
